Lower Sacramento River

Nearest City: Redding, CA

The Lower Sacramento River is the largest river in the state and provides some of the most consistent quality wild trout fly fishing in the west. With over 40 miles of guide-able trout water there are many different options for floats and options to go through town or down lower in more scenic wild areas. Indicator nymphing from a drift boat is the primary focus on this river, while dry flies, dry droppers, and swinging are effective during certain times of year as well. There are lots of prolific hatches on this river from huge pmd and yellow sally hatches in spring to caddis during summer to the salmon egg drop in the fall.
